Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian) is an American singer who gained prominence initially for her partnership with Sonny Bono in the singing duo "Sonny & Cher". She then segued into a popular solo singing career and then gained success as an actress, appearing in such films as Silkwood, Suspect, Mask and 1987's Moonstruck, a role for which she received the Academy Award for Best Actress.
