The props, realized by Weta Workshop, have been built in at least 2 variants: the Standard Issue Rifle GS-221 and the Personal Defence Weapon(PDW)variant with a shorter barrel. From a closer inspection of the weapons, resemblences can be clearly seen to the MC-R (modular Caseless Rifle) that appeared in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter series of games.

The shotgun and the underslung weapon on the rifles have similarities, so one could assume a shorter shotgun is underneath the GS-221(Rifle)much like the Master Key system used by SWAT and Military CQB forces. (note the ejection ports on the rifles in the picture below). Col. Quaritch ([[Stephen Lang]]) fires a PDW variant at the escaping Samson helicopter before switching to his revolver. From closer examination of the rifles used, it appears that a number of the prop rifles were built around the Ruger AC-556 series automatic rifles (note: the shell ejection ports have a Garand-style cocking handle similar to the ones used on the Ruger Mini-14/AC-556 rifles)

Nice, but where's the trigger?

The following weapons appear in the film Avatar:

Avatar (2009)

Modified M60 machine gun

A modified M60 machine gun is used as a door gun on the SA-2 Samson tiltrotors, and as an assault rifle by the ten-foot-tall Avatars. The weapon uses a side-mounted detachable drum magazine (very closely resembling an MG42 or MG3) instead of an ammo belt. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) uses this during the Thanator attack and during the final battle until he pulls out his grenades. Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore) uses one during the final battle as well.

While in his Avatar, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) fires the modified M60 when trapped by a Thanator.

GS-221 Base Carbine unit

Seen used by the RDA SecFor on Pandora. According to the "Human Hardware" featurette the weapons are made by the fictional company "MATANZA ARMS CORP.". Col. Quaritch (Stephen Lang) fires a PDW variant at the escaping Samson helicopter before switching to his revolver. The actual gun being used seems to be slightly customized Magpul PDR.

Movie weapons props from IGN featurette "Human Hardware"

the GS-221 with under slung bullpup shotgun or grenade launcher (Appears to be similar to the Shotgun main body), the Shotgun and the PDW (Flamethrower hidden by the Bullpup Shotgun) Some rifles look like they have under-barrel attachments that could be a shot gun or a grenade launcher, however they were never fired during the film.

here are the links to drawings I made of the SIR and PDW according to the "Human Hardware" featurette :

you can see a Long Range Sniper Rifle that is not seen in the movie

(thank you in advance to the one who'll integrate those drawings to the article)

Unknown Bullpup Shotgun

Seen used by RDA operatives in the trailers. Trudy Chacon (Michelle Rodriguez) and Norm Spellman is seen armed with one in the film.

The shotgun is the one with the handgrip.

Weapons of the movie appear to be resin casted. The shotgun and the underslung weapon on the rifles have similarities, so one could assume a shorter shotgun is underneath the GS-221(Rifle)much like the Master Key system used by SWAT and Military CQB forces.

in a behind the scene video the show one of the shot guns being fired. it its pump action so it might be based on a Mossberg 500 Bullpup. it would probably make the underslung shotguns just for show.

Modified handgun

Seen used by a SecFor member before he is pulled off the gunship. A major handguard has been added to the actual weapon. Trudy Chacon (Michelle Rodriguez) uses a Modified Handgun to break Jake (Sam Worthington), Norm (Joel David Moore) and Grace (Sigourney Weaver) out of jail and then passes it to Jake when she goes to start up the Samson.

Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) use a handgun during the Avatars team escape from the Colony

Modified General Dynamics GAU-19/A

The MBS-22A "Hydra" is a Tri-Barreled Machine Gun that fired .50 Caliber Uranium "Needle" Rounds The three barrel on the Hydra's do not spin like a gatling gun, but all three barrels fire in full-automatic simultaneously. The Hydra is seen used as door guns on the Aerospatiale SA-2 Samson, and on the Valkyrie that is used as a bomber. Trudy's Samson, had two auto fired during the battle for the tree of souls.

"WASP gun" - Custom Break-open Revolver

Seen in the hands of Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang) in promotional stills. Also used by him in the movie when he tries to stop the fleeing Samson helicopter, and during the final battle to try to dislodge Jake. Name taken from the book "Avatar Survival Guide". said to use 9 millimeter hypervelocity sabot rounds.

Bush Boss FD-11

Prop seen in the "Human Hardware" featurette. In the movie it is used briefly by a mercenary to burn plant life during the final battle sequence. According to the "Pandorapedia", a similar but bigger weapon would be an optional equipment for the AMP suit; however this system is not visible in the movie.

Fictional 30mm autocannon the "GAU-90"

Carried like rifles by the AMP suits. Col. Miles Quartich (Stephen Lang) and Cpl. Lyle Wainfleet (Matt Gerald) use GAU-90's on their suits during the final battle.

Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) rolls past an AMP suit armed with a GAU-90.
Cpl. Lyle Wainfleet (Matt Gerald) aims his GAU-90 at the charging Na'vi.
