In this story, a system known as "Butei" (abbreviation of ''Busou Tantei''[武装探偵], meaning "Armed Detective") was established as a qualification course to help curb the worsening crime rates in the world. Several specializations made into divisions exist for the "Butei" system, but all have the right to be armed and could arrest criminals as long as it falls under the conduct of the "Butei Law".
