The AM-17 (Russian: Aвтомат Малогабаритный, lit. "Small-sized Automatic Rifle") is a compact Russian assault rifle developed by Kalashnikov Concern. The AM-17 is designed to be a modern assault rifle made to compliment Russia's large scale overhauling of its military's personal equipment. Unlike most other Russian assault rifles, the AM-17 consists of two receivers connected by a hinge rather than a single piece of stamped metal. It is compatible with AK-74 magazines and fires the standard 5.45x39mm round. It is currently being evaluated by the Russian Army, special forces, and police units.
