The Return of Frank James (also known as: The Revenge of Frank James) is a 1940 Western film directed by Sam Hellman and starring Henry Fonda as the titular Frank James. This film is a sequel of the also successful film, Jesse James from 1939, directed by Henry King.
After his brother was murdered by the Ford brothers, Frank James decides to abandon his new life as a humble farmer to take revenge on his brother's murderers. However, he wonders if he should get revenge on him when he sees that his adopted son, Clem, is enthusiastic about being a gunslinger like his father.

Revolvers
Colt 1873 Single Action Army
Bob Ford (John Carradine), Robert Ford (Charles Tannen), Mr. Runyan (J. Edward Bromberg) and some secundary characters carries a Colt Single Action Army. Clem (Jackie Cooper) is seen carrying a Colt Single Action Army in the beginning and during Frank's robbery of the Express Office.
Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3
Clem (Jackie Cooper) and Robert Ford (John Carradine) carry a Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 with ivory grips as their sidearms. Frank James (Henry Fonda) wears (presumably) his brother's Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 during his duel against Charlie Ford and during the film's climax.
Remington 1875
Frank James (Henry Fonda) carries a Remington 1875 as his personal sidearm during the entire film. During Frank's trial, Major. Rufus Cobb (Henry Hull) briefly shows Frank's Remington 1875 to the jury and accidentally fires it.
