A Question

One thing that always bothered me about this film is that Bobby Thompson kills his wife and mother then goes on his shooting rampage... but what about his father? He is completely forgotten about! He wasn't killed, he just disappeared halfway through the movie --Jackbel 06:07, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I think they were trying to relate to Charles Whitman in that he killed his wife and mother, not his father. --AdAstra2009 06:25, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I can see that, but its still a pretty big plot hole --Jackbel 07:25, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

This very topic is discussed on imdb.I just chalked it up to the fact the the movie was on a small budget and a pretty tight film schedule. Roger Corman produced it and it's my understanding that working on one of his productions is an excercise in efficient filming. If there was some hidden meaning it went by me. --Jcordell 13:32, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
Bobby starts his killing a few minutes before noon. His note states that it is now 11:40 A.M. So his dad was already at work when he goes on his rampage. Also bobby is a an active shooter. They don't tend to do real well when confronted by somebody who is willing to use violence against them.I got the impression that his father is formidable man and Bobby might have been afraid of his father. --Jcordell (talk) 22:02, 17 February 2014 (EST)

Photo of him in Vietnam

Is that explicitly stated as Vietnam in the movie? He is standing in front of what appears to be snow covered mountains. Also his uniform seems to be the cotton OG-106 late 1950s, early 1960s variant (a shirt that is way too big that was pinned to fit him). The name tapes seem too large to be milspec. It could be miscellaneous military service anywhere in the world, i.e. Germany, Spain, anywhere with tall snow covered mountains. Just curious. :) MoviePropMaster2008

Low budget Roger Corman movie. I noticed that as well. I think everyone just assumed Vietnam because it was 1968. --Jcordell (talk) 08:50, 30 September 2015 (EDT)
It could also be Korea. --Maxman (talk) 14:40, 30 September 2015 (EDT)
I was thinking Korea as well. I don't think that's snow on the mountains. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:54, 30 September 2015 (EDT)
Since Charles Wittman was discharged before Vietnam, it would make sense for Bobby to have served in peacetime. --Maxman (talk) 15:27, 30 September 2015 (EDT)

Husqvarna 1600

I think the unknown bolt rifle is a Husqvarna 1600, or possibly an M96. The stock and sights look very Husqvarna. --Maxman (talk) 17:18, 30 September 2015 (EDT)

Inside Bobby's trunk of his car is an arsenal of guns. The rifle is third from the top.
As Bobby unloads his guns on the gas tank, the unknown rifle is the rifle to the left of the M1 Carbine.
