Look at the combined forward assist and brass deflector, that is a DPMS feature. My guess is a DPMS NATO REPR, seems like a pretty close match:

I think it is a .22 Ruger semiautomatic with custom silencer. -Roman

M1A

A few of the M1A caps show a notch in the stock for a selector switch. I don't think M1As have those, do they? --Funkychinaman (talk) 07:29, 7 May 2013 (EDT)

I haven't seen the film so am just going off of the caps, but it appears that there are two different M1As used in the film. The first is the one with the camo stock in the first load of screencaps, which has a notched stock, no selector and no bayonet lug. I believe that early model M1As had the notched stock, or it could be an after market stock that is compatible with the M14 as well, but as it lacks the selector switch itself it is an M1A. The second gun with the plain wood stock is a bit more of mystery, as (although having no selector switch making it an M1A) it has the combination of an un-notched stock and a bayonet lug. The bayonet lug was deleted due to the the assault weapons ban in 1994 so the very first M1As had them, however the stock was not changed to the un-notched one until the late 1990s, so either the FSB or stock has been switched to make this gun. Also just to add, the M21 DMR image that is on the page is actually an M1A as well, as that lacks the selector switch. Sniper Roll

Why does Tom Cruise do the roll before shooting at the range? Is that a common thing for long-distance shooting?--Qtrain 22:28, 7 September 2013 (EDT)

I was wondering this too, but from what I can tell it's so he can roll into a more stable and natural firing position without shifting around on his stomach, basically conforming naturally while on his back so it fits much more snugly and less intrusive for when he's going to be firing from prone

The removed comment was "This is somewhat unusual for an on-duty law enforcement officer." My answer is that plenty of departments would issue handguns according to the size of the officer's hands. A buddy of mine had a Glock 23 as his on duty gun. I would also point out that Emerson is a Detective and usually they carry whatever they want as long as its department approved, mostly compact handguns.
