Talk:Dragnet (1967)

Joe Friday's carry gun is the Smith & Wesson Model 36 Chief's Special. In episode 21, "The Shooting Board", Sgt Friday shoots and kills a laundromat burglar who fires first on Friday. In one scene Sgt Friday is asked for his gun so SID, Scientific Investigation Division, can do ballistics tests on it. We see a profile of the gun in Friday's hand with Friday saying something like, "Hear is my Smith & Wesson revolver,". From that episode and scene, I conclude his carry piece must be a model 36. In the brief shot where we see Friday's gun in profile, it has the distinct thin grip of the Smith & Wesson. This distinguishes it from the Colt Detective Special so many claim Friday carried. To my knowledge his gun is never completely identified in the series.

In the picture below, however, it looks like there are six shots in the cylinder. That would make it a Smith & Wesson Model 10 snub. --Funkychinaman 15:35, 10 December 2011 (CST)
Smith & Wesson Model 10 snub nose revolver - .38 Special. Same frame, but with smaller grips and 2 inch barrel.

In the 1960's Dragnet, Joe Friday does carry a Smith & Wesson model 10, as he did in the 1950's movie. In the 1950's version of the Dragnet TV show, he carried a Colt Detective Special. --Sg688 00:12, 25 March 2012 (CDT)

Excellent finding a stock photo of the Colt Officers Model Special, but it is a separate model. The specific model shown is the Officers Model Match. Picky, Picky. --Sg688 19:01, 27 March 2012 (CDT)

The Big Explosion

The episode "The Big Explosion" has several firearms. At least four Garands, a SMLE, and a Thompson submachine gun. --Surv1v4l1st 12:54, 19 April 2012 (CDT)

Luger

I don't have a screenshot yet, but the episode "Homicide-Who Killed Who?" had a Luger P08 used by the suspect.--Surv1v4l1st (talk) 02:09, 19 August 2014 (EDT)

"The Kidnapping"

In the episode "The Kidnapping", the perp is armed with some kind of revolver. It appears to be of top-break design. Anyone positively confirm this one?

Possible Enfield No. 2 Mk. 1. Black Irish Paddy (talk) 23:22, 12 March 2017 (EDT)

While it is a possibility, the grip is too short and the barrel way too wide. Kinda looks like a Harrington & Richardson target gun, though the grip is really short if that is what it is. -- PaperCake 13:27, 13 March 2017 (EST)
The grip is obscured by his pant leg, look at the picture. Black Irish Paddy (talk) 10:11, 14 March 2017 (EDT)
It has a wide target sight and also has a hammer plus a spur, I'm thinking it's a H&R target revolver. -- PaperCake 12:22, 15 March 2017 (EST)
Agreed. Considering the era and outline, I'm thinking H&R too.--Surv1v4l1st (talk) 01:43, 17 April 2017 (EDT)

Wall of Guns

Dragnet, Gun Wall1.jpg

Top is a Baker Rifle, look at the trigger guard and patchbox. The middle is a pistol grip stocked flintlock, it seems so familiar but I can't place it. Bottom looks like a Wanzl Rifle, but seems like it could be another breech loader conversion. Top left revolver is a Smith and Wesson Model 3 or a Model .44 double action, I can't make out the trigger and trigger guard well enough to tell. Middle left is a Colt Walker. Bottom left looks like a Colt Police Positive Target. Top right looks like a Nickel Merwin Hulbert revolver. Middle right looks like a Nickel Colt SAA. Bottom right looks like an Elgin Cutlass Pistol without the grip guard and a different grip, same blade though. Black Irish Paddy (talk) 02:17, 4 May 2017 (EDT)

H&R Revolver

Season 3, Episode 7 has a perp brought in what appears to be an H&R revolver. Can anyone identify? Add to article?

IverRevolverDragnet.jpg
Possibly Iver Johnson Model 55. --Greg-Z (talk) 02:12, 30 December 2019 (EST)

".22 Rifle"

Another one I can't ID, but probably belongs on the article:
