On the Pomegranate Islands (Russian title: На Гранатовых островах; Na Granatovykh ostrovakh) is a 1981 Soviet Cold War-era political drama. The action takes place in the fictional Republic of Pomegranate Islands. The petroleum discovered on the islands becomes the cause of a coup organized by the CIA. A group of Western journalists accredited to the UN are visiting the country and must report in their reports that everything is calm. At the end of the visit, journalists leave the Islands, but because of the bad weather they are forced to return. And then they become witnesses of what was not intended for attention of outsiders - Operation Globe, a invasion of US troops into the republic.

The following weapons were used in the film On the Pomegranate Islands (Na Granatovykh ostrovakh):

Colt M1911A1

The Colt M1911A1 pistols used by several American soldiers, Faraj, Kalisher, and Holtz.

Pre-War Colt M1911A1 Pistol - Commercial Model known as the "Colt Government Model" - .45 ACP
US army soldier (or, more likely, a non-commissioned officer) with M1911A1 pistol. On rare occasions for Cold War films, uniforms generally look pretty believable.

Submachine Guns

M1928A1 Thompson

The M1928A1 Thompson submachine guns used by several American soldiers and Resistance fighters. Majority or all of them are converted for using 7.62x25 blanks in MP40 magazines (since the filmmakers in the old days had a problems with .45 ACP blanks cartridges).

The L1A1 battle rifles are used by several US soldiers. Some of these rifles appears to be the C1A1s, as they lack large holes in the forend.

L1A1 SLR - 7.62x51mm NATO. This is the later, typical version of the L1A1 which used black fiberglass furniture.
Canadian C1A1 - 7.62x51mm NATO. The C1A1 is quite different from other Commonwealth L1A1s, having different sights and a wood handguard without any vent holes.
