MaadiARM.jpg(700 × 206 pixels, file size: 80 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

This is a Maadi ARM (the semi auto version imported in the 1980s) and is an actual movie gun. It is blank adapted and has appeared in several motion pictures. The original laminate stock in this example was replaced with a hardwood one, when the original buttstock was broken when a stuntman accidentally dropped the gun (ouch). Most of the AKMs that appear in movies during the 1980s (Red Dawn, Rambo II, etc.) were semi auto imported "ARM"s that were legally converted to full auto fire by Class III manufacturers. Remember that a lot guns were converted BEFORE the Federal 1986 full auto ban (known as the Hughes Amendment to the McClure/Volkmer Act of 1986) which froze privately transferable full auto guns to anything before May of 1986 and banned future conversion or manufacture except for police, military or dealer samples. The ARMS was a folding stock version of the same gun. The ARM was the "semi auto only" import model (for the USA) of the Egyptian MISR rifle (built in the Maadi factory). No imported gun was officially named MISR until a post ban version under the name "MISR" was imported after 1990. So if you're referring to an MISR in the years before 1990, you're talking about the full auto Egyptian gun that arms their soldiers and sold to military clients.
