Description: The only known pair of dueling pistols by J & S. Hawken of St. Louis, MS, .66 caliber percussion, 10-1/8” heavy octagon barrels, nicely checkered maple stocks, adjustable triggers, swivel ramrods, German silver forend cap. Inlay at butt, and escutcheon around barrel key. The locks are lightly engraved. The triggerguard show an extended spur attached by two screws, which was installed at time of manufacture by Hawken. The pistols remain in original very good condition showing traces of original brown on barrels, some light cleaning to grey, some scattered light erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The locks and breeches show 30-050% case hardening with some light rainbow colors still showing. The locks are well marked J&S Hawken. The barrels are stamped St. Louis. The pistols show beautifully made German silver blade and post front sight and the pistols show Hawken quality throughout.
