10 Cloverfield Lane is a 2016 psychological thriller produced by J.J. Abrams and directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the former podcast host making his feature film directorial debut. The film follows Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a young woman who is rescued from a car accident by a man named Howard (John Goodman) and has brought her to his underground bunker on his rural Lousiana farm. Howard explains to Michelle that there has been an attack, causing the air to be contaminated. However, there seems to be more to the situation than it appears. The film also stars John Gallagher Jr. and Bradley Cooper, who makes a brief voice cameo. While not a direct sequel, 10 Cloverfield Lane is connected to the original Cloverfield through Bold Futura, a subsidiary of Tagruato (the company that had accidentally awakened Clover in the original film), and a Slusho! sign appears in a gas station at the beginning of the film. Slusho Corp. was another Tagruato subsidiary, which Rob in Cloverfield was going to Japan to work for. Producer J.J. Abrams would return to the Cloverfield universe in 2018 with the Netflix film The Cloverfield Paradox.
