The Norinco Type 05 police revolver, also known under the generic name "Norinco 9mm Police Revolver", first appeared in 2006 for arming various elements of Chinese Police like traffic police, local municipal police, etc which previously were unarmed. According to some sources, its export version is designated the Norinco NP-216. The 9mm ammunition it uses is apparently based on the .38 S&W cartridge, and has two versions: a less-lethal rubber bullet version and a lethal version.
