The Wimmersperg Spz (Sten-pistole-zweiteilig) is series of German late-WWII assault rifle designs intended to combine the Sturmgewehr 44 and the Sten to create a cost-saving assault rifle.
The three variants of the Spz are the following:
- Wimmersperg Spz-l - (lange Bauart, long variant)
- Wimmersperg Spz-kr - (kurze Bauart mit Regler für Seriefeuer, short model with burst-fire switch)
- Wimmersperg Spz-kv - (kurze Bauart mit Verschlußzündung, striker-fired short model)
The Spz existed exclusively as a concept during World War II, and no physical units were known to have ever been made during the war. In 2021, craftsman and hobbyist Alex of Die Bastelkammer — der Tüftler-Blog produced a non-firing replica of the Wimmersperg Spz-l based on original blueprints.
