Variant "Zombie" (Original title: Вариант "Зомби") is a 1985 Soviet spy movie. A powerful fascist-type organization is conducting experiments on the inhabitants of an African country to create parapsychological weapons for mind control. But the method of memory restoration and treatment of mental neuroses, developed by the Soviet professor Lesnikov, is becoming a serious threat to the group.

The movie was probably the first film of this kind in the (ex-) USSR, and for a long time almost the only one due to the lack of particular popularity of such a topic. However, as one might expect, the movie itself was mostly about tradecraft, and zombie themes in it are superficial.

The following weapons were used in the film Variant "Zombie":

Assault Rifles

StG-44 (Mocked-Up as M16)

The organization's soldiers use StG-44s mocked-up to look like M16 assault rifles.

Sturmgewehr 44, visually modified to resemble an Armalite rifle such as the M16 - 7.62x39 blank. Such movie props were widely used in Soviet movies of 1970s-90s.

Other

Panhard EBR

The organization's forces use a Panhard EBR Mle 51 armored vehicle in pseudo-documentary footage. This French armored car is armed with a 75mm SA49 main gun and three MAC 31E Reibel machine guns.
