The Type 98 was the standard light anti-air weapon of the Imperial Japanese Army during the World War II era, developed from the Hotchkiss M1929, which itself was used by the IJA as the Type Ho. The Type 98 would serve as the basis for the Type 97 anti-tank rifle and its derivatives the Ho-1 and Ho-3.
