The Yellow Rose (Trandafirul galben) is a Romanian 1982 adventure movie directed by Doru Nastase and starring Florin Piersic as noble brigand Margelatu "The Yellow Rose". The plot is set in the Principality of Wallachia (modern Romania) before the Revolution of 1848. Revolutionaries of the movement "Justice and Brotherhood" purchase weapons in Austria, but their envoy is exposed, murdered and replaced with the police agent. Now Margelatu is the only person who can smuggle the guns for the uprising.
The movie is the second of the six about the adventures of Margelatu.
The following weapons were used in the film The Yellow Rose (Trandafirul galben):
Handguns
Margelatu's Pepperbox
In all six movies Margelatu (Florin Piersic) carries his signature weapon, an eight-barrel pepperbox. The gun is a custom prop, generally resembling Lefaucheux and Francotte models but with separate barrels, like on Mariette Pepperbox.
Trivia: After the filming was over, Piersic kept the gun together with some other movie props. In 2008 four prop pistols, including the pepperbox, were stolen from Piersic's hunting lodge in Apuseni Mountains; only one gun was sucessfully returned in 2013.
Percussion Cap Pistol
Percussion Cap Pistols are seen in hands of secret police agent Martolea (Papil Panduru), brigand chieftan Hare Lip (Szabolcs Cseh), army officers and revolutionaries of "Justice and Brotherhood" movement. Many (maybe all) pistols are weapons, converted from flintlock to percussion cap lock, as it can be seen on close-ups.
Percussion Dueling Pistol
In the final scene Aga (chief of police) Mavrodineanu (Traian Stanescu) has a dueling-style percussion cap pistol on his nightstand.
Rifles and Muskets
Mauser Gewehr 1898 (visually modified)
Most flintlock muskets, seen in the movie, turn out to be visually modified bolt action rifles, most likely Mauser Gewehr 1898, with removed bolts and fitted with crude mockups of flintlocks. They are most widely seen among the smuggled guns and are also used by soldiers and by sailors on Austrian steamer.
Flintlock Musket (mockup)
Some flintlock muskets are also mockups, but based not a Mauser Gewehr 1898 but on some other rifle.
Percussion Cap Musket
Some percussion cap muskets, seen among the smuggled guns and in hands of soldiers, seem to genuine guns rather than mockups. They may be French Charleville Muskets or one of the Russian or Austrian models, based on French design.
