The Insider is a 1999 drama directed by Michael Mann and based on the true story of Jeffrey Wigand (portrayed by Russell Crowe), a chemist working for a tobacco company who is fired from his job and then is convinced to expose the truth behind the dangers involved with cigarettes. Al Pacino co-stars as "60 Minutes" producer Lowell Bergman.
