I mean, I don't think it'd be a problem if you want to, but it's not all that necessary. The M1883 is just an M1879 with a shorter barrel and grip; we've certainly had more dissimilar weapons from the same series on one page before - it'd be similar to, say, the infantry rifle and cavalry carbine versions of a military breechloader or bolt-action being on the same page. I agree with Pyro - They're both essentially the same gun, the 'differences' are relatively minor. Not nearly enough to justify splitting apart when we group guns of the same series or 'family' with more and larger differences in grips/stocks, barrel length, overall physical size, and/or other features together on a single page.
