Box office disappointment?

According to this, it was the 10th highest grossing film in North America, and 9th worldwide, of 2001. I wouldn't call that a disappointment. Spartan198 (talk) 19:58, 18 August 2014 (EDT)

I guess so, but apparently was not good enough to warrant a sequel. --Ben41 (talk) 20:31, 18 August 2014 (EDT)
Well, Tim Burton was quoted on the subject of whether or not he'd want to direct a sequel as saying "I'd rather jump out a window", so maybe Fox just considered it easier to reboot the whole thing instead of burden someone with trying to make sense of Burton's confusing ending? Although IMO it's most likely Burton intended to pull an Escape and have it just be a matter of Thade salvaging Leo's ship, (somehow) restoring it to working order, learning to pilot it, and arriving on earth and subjugating the human race decades (or even centuries) before Leo returned. Do you actually know anyone who liked the movie? And/or wanted to see a sequel? --Funkychinaman (talk) 21:16, 18 August 2014 (EDT)
I liked it, for one. And if you'd asked me before Rise came out, I wouldn't have minded a sequel, no. Spartan198 (talk) 00:35, 19 August 2014 (EDT)

I'm still baffled by that continuity error

Why did they even have that gun? Evil Tim (talk) 00:51, 17 January 2017 (EST)

Maybe the scene was considered too dangerous for a blank fire gun and it was the closest resemblance they had to the Goncz? Spartan198 (talk) 08:33, 17 August 2017 (EDT)
