I tend to think that this is a percussion cap gun, maybe (with great care) we can assume that this is Russian percussion cap rifled musket (vintovka) M1856. Krnka rifle was a conversion of M1856 so they have very similar outlook. Or it can be a hunting percussion cap musket with military style handguard; such guns were very popular on periphery of Russian Empire where people tend to be poorer and couldn't afford modern breach-loading hunting gun. | + | ::That makes sense to me, the old Sniders from Britain and surplus Trapdoors as well as the various french Tabatieres, Chassepots, and Gras were turned into sporting rifles and shotguns. The parts would be cheap and demand would keep them around for some time. Not to mention those muskets are the easiest shotgun conversions on earth just bore out the rifling and there you go. I think it would likely be a Russian musket possibly dressed up with surplus Krnka furniture, the barrel bands just seem Krnka like to me, although the stock seems to be sanded or worn down thinner than a normal Krnka.
