Tactical Ops: Assault On Terror (abbreviated TacOps) is a tactical First-Person Shooter developed by Kamehan Interactive. Originally the game was released as a total conversion for Unreal Tournament, but in 2002 a standalone retail version was released through MicroProse.

The basic gameplay is very much like Counter-Strike, with two teams (Terrorists and Special Forces) fighting against each other. There are also lots of typical hostage rescue and bombing/defuse maps, but there are many more objective-based maps similar to UT's "Assault" mode. For example on one map the Terrorists have to steal the OICW prototype from a factory.

The weapons in TacOps are all based on real weapons. However, due to licensing policies, some weapons appear under false names. The handling of the weapons is rather relaxed than realistic. Compared to CS, the weapons do far less damage and are also less accurate. However, on many weapons different firing modes are selectable. As in the famous concurrent, there are weapons available for both teams as well as such that are restricted to one side. Weapons are bought from money that is gained during the match rounds.

Another peculiar feature of TacOps is the weapon inventory. Weapons are grouped in 5 categories, and each player can hold at maximum one gun/weapon of each category (this even applies to grenades). These categories are:

  1. Knife
  2. Pistols
  3. Submachine Guns and Shotguns
  4. Rifles
  5. Grenades

The following weapons are used in the game Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror.

Pistols

Beretta 92F

Glorietta 9F2 pistol

This is the standard weapon of the Special Forces. It appears in the game under the name Glorietta 9F2 and has a 15-round magazine.

Glock 18?

GL 23 pistol

The standard weapon of the terrorists. Holds 13 rounds, features a 3-round burst mode and is called GL 23 in the game.

IMI Desert Eagle

Black Hawk pistol

A powerful handgun and the only one available to both sides. Holds 7 rounds and appears as the Night Hawk.

Taurus Raging Bull

Raging Cobra revolver

Easy to be identified by its fictional name Raging Cobra. The only revolver in the game and restricted to the Special Forces. A engraving on the barrel reads "Sixshooter", which also concludes this gun's ammo capacity.

Submachine Guns

H&K MP5K?

AP II SMG

Appears under the name AP II and is the cheapest SMG, being bought exclusively by the Special Forces. The magazine holds 32 rounds.

H&K MP5SD5

MP5SD SMG

Simply called the MP5SD inside the game, this weapon is also restricted to the Special Forces. It holds a 30-round magazine and is the only silenced weapon in the game.

Ingram MAC-10

Uzi' SMG

The ingame name of this gun reads Uzi, but it's clear that this is in fact the Ingram MAC-10. It is the cheapest SMG for the terrorists and features 30 bullets to be spared.

H&K MP5A5

MP5 Navy SMG

Iconical SMG of the terrorists, called the MP5 Navy in the game. Has 30 rounds in it and selectable semi-automatic, burst fire and full-automatic modes.

Franchi SPAS-12

BW SPS12 pump gun

Easy to distinguish by its appearance and its fictional name, BW SPS12. The buying of this 8-round shotgun is restricted to the Special Forces.

Mossberg 590 Cruiser

Berg 509 pump gun

Another easy-to-identify shotgun, this time on the Terrorists' side. The Berg 509 also holds 8 rounds.

Saiga-12

AS12 semi-automatic shotgun

A powerful semi-automatic shotgun of the terrorists. The ingame name reads AS12. It holds a 7-round magazine.

Assault Rifles

M16

M16 assault rifle

This assault rifle, simply dubbed M16 in the game, is available to both sides. It has a single-fire and a 3-round-burst mode. Its magazine holds 20 bullets and it is equipped with a optional laser aiming device mounted under the barrel.

M4A1

M4A1 assault carbine

Assault carbine of the Special Forces. Holds 30 rounds and has the selectable modes of semi-auto, 3-round and full-auto.

AK47

AK47 assault rifle

Iconic assault rifle of the Terrorists and their counterpart on the M4A1. Just like the original, it features a semi-auto and a full-auto mode and holds 30 rounds in the magazine.

H&K HK33

PK 3 scoped assault rifle

Powerful assault rifle of the Special Forces. Has only a full-auto firing mode to dispense its 30 rounds, but is equipped with a scope. Called the PK 3 Rifle inside the game.

SIG SG 551?

SW Commando scoped assault rifle

Named the SW Commando, this is the Terrorists' counterpart to the HK33. Technical features are identical to the latter.

M4A1/M203

M4A1 assault carbine with M203 grenade launcher below the barrel. Note the ever-present launcher sight on top of the barrel.

The pinnacle of the Special Forces' weapons is this combination of an assault rifle and a grenade launcher. Unless the "simple" M4A1, this one only can fire in full-auto mode. However, the fire mode switch button activates the M203 grenade launcher.

H&K OICW

No weapon the player can actually buy in the game. The OICW combination of assault rifle and grenade launcher is the objective of the map TO_Metalstorm. The terrorists have to steal the weapon, while the Special Forces have to defend it. Hence, the weapon can only be picked up by Terrorist players. Another way to get the weapon is to actually summon it by cheating, the according code is to enter summon s_swat.s_oicw in the console. Before that, the cheat mode has to be activated by typing iamtheone into the console.

Sniper Rifles

H&K MSG90

SR 90 automatic sniper rifle

This rifle, dubbed the SR 90 in the game, is a automatic sniper rifle. It holds 5 rounds and features two zoom steps. Available to both sides.

Parker Hale M85

Parker Hale M85 sniper rifle

The most devastating sniper rifle in the game, and also the only weapon of the game to be called by its manufacturer's name. Holds 10 rounds in its magazine, but has to be cocked after each shot. Also features two zoom steps in the scope and is available to both teams.

Machine Guns

M60

M60 machine gun

The only machine gun inside the game is limited to the Terrorists and their counterpart to the M4A1/M203 combination of the Special Forces. Holds an impressive load of 100 bullets inside the ammo case.
