Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale (February 18, 2017)

In April 2026, a few weeks after the end of the events of Sword Art Online II, under pressure from his girlfriend/fiancée/wife Asuna Yuuki (Username: Asuna) and the rest of their close friends, Kazuto Kirigaya (Username: Kirito) finally decides to pick up an Augma, a brand new augmented reality device intended to compete with the virtual reality AmuSphere, and play its flagship game: The ARMMORPG Ordinal Scale. However, after boss monsters from the original Sword Art Online game start appearing, and other even more sinister events start to unfold, Kazuto and his friends realize the fate of all SAO Survivors might be on the line.

Unlike full-dive VR (the setting in all previous SAO story arcs), where a user is effectively unconscious with their five senses intercepted and replaced with the game's sensory inputs, Augmented Reality has the user fully conscious and able to move around the real world, but with various sensory overlays that make the real world look and feel like a game. Ordinal Scale is the Augma's flagship launch game, and its main events have players fight large boss monsters in preset locations at preset times (as those areas have to be safe and closed to outsiders). Ordinal Scale also features Yuna, a songstress diva AI who seems so natural and life-like that some players wonder whether she's really an AI...

Ordinal Scale (the game) features both melee and firearm-style weapons, and also significant aesthetic player customization; a mix of real firearm designs, reference-to-other-fictional-series firearms, and purely fictional blaster-type weapons all appear in the game. It should be noted, however, that all weapons used in Ordinal Scale (the game) are merely digital overlays, not real firearms. However, real firearms do appear elsewhere in the movie.

Warning: Some descriptions and images are very significant spoilers for the series, read at your own risk.

The following weapons were used in the anime film Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale:

Unidentified

This article currently has one or more unidentified weapons.
If you can help identify any of the weapons labelled "unknown," please do so.

Pistols

Minebea P9

The Japan Self-Defense Force standard-issue Minebea P9, a license-built SIG-Sauer P220, makes its proper SAO debut in the movie, after having a small cameo in Gun Gale Online's weapon market in Sword Art Online II. It is also the only real, non-video game firearm to appear in the movie. Seijirou Kikuoka's government agent types all carry Minebea P9s, and Seijirou himself commandeers one of them to shoot the electronic keypad. One has to wonder if Kikuoka is really just from the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Virtual Division...

Glock 18C

Sinon's Glock 18C appears in her holster with the rest of her Gun Gale Online gear when Yui gets a hold of everyone's save data (as the games are all based on The Seed and therefore connected) during the final battle. The 18C continues its trend of being used very little, to the point where it's not drawn or used at all in the movie.

Submachine Guns

Calico M900

When Yui brings in players from Gun Gale Online and ALfheim Online to aid in the final battle (thanks to them both being The Seed-based games), top-level GGO player Yamikaze, with his Calico M900, shows up with a number of other familiar GGO and ALO players.

Heckler & Koch UMP40

MAC M-10

During the battle with Kagachi the Samurai Lord, who was the Floor Boss on Aincrad's 10th floor in Sword Art Online (the game), an Ordinal Scale player is seen wearing futuristic power armour and wielding a pair of MAC M-10s, both fitted with the small hand strap on the front sling swivel.

Rocket Launchers

AT4 / Mk 153 SMAW hybrid

An OS player participating in the battle with Kagachi the Samurai Lord is armed with a fictional rocket launcher that seems to be based on the tube of the Saab Bofors Dynamics AT4 and trigger/grip assembly of the Mk 153 SMAW.

Optical Weapons

Optical Rifle

The Optical Rifle is seen in the movie with some OS players fighting Kagachi during an OS match in Akihabara. Unlike Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online, they are not based on any actual firearms.
