Ruger LCP (Lightweight Compact Pistol) - .380 ACP
Ruger LC380, updated model of the LCP - .380 ACP

The Ruger LCP (Lightweight Compact Pistol) is a subcompact .380 pistol that was unveiled by Ruger at the 2008 SHOT Show (and released in the summer of that same year), marking the company's first entry into the subcompact defensive handgun market. It has a 6+1 capacity and weighs less than 10 ounces.

The LCP's styling would be used in the 2011 locked-breech 9x19mm LC9, and its 2014 striker-fired variant, the LC9s. Both are near-identical externally (outside of scale - the 9x19mm variants are, naturally, slightly larger), making it difficult to tell them apart. The primary distinguishing features are the LCP's use of a button slide release on its left side (as both LC9 variants use a lever release) and the rectangular slot for the hammer in the rear of the slide (compared to the cross-shaped slot on the LC9, and no slot at all on the striker-fired LC9s). If fired, the LCP and LC9 can also be distinguished by the LCP's fixed barrel (as opposed to the Browning-Whiting-style tilting barrel seen in the 9x19mm variants). Most of the LC9's features would go on to appear in the LC380, a later variant (released in 2013) which is effectively an LC9 rechambered in .380 ACP; as such, it holds seven rounds instead of the LCP's six, and uses the same locked-breech mechanism as its 9x19mm progenitors.

In 2016, Ruger would introduce a new .380 pistol titled the LCP II, unusual for being (like the LC380) a locked-breech .380, which is easily distinguished from its predecessor due to its different external styling.
