Background
Introduced in 1948, the Remington model 721 was designed to replace the Remington Model 30 sporting rifle. The Model 721 was a Mauser based design and was a long action. Remington also manufactured the Model 722 in a short action for the ,308 Winchester, 222 Remington, .257 Roberts and .300 Savage. Both models were discontinued in 1962 by the Remington Model 700.
