Messenger of Death is a 1988 thriller starring Charles Bronson as Garret Smith, a Denver newspaper reporter who while investigating the murder of a Mormon family, discovers a conspiracy involving land and water rights. This film was directed by J. Lee Thompson, who was responsible for such films as Northwest Frontier, St. Ives, Death Wish 4 and The Guns of Navarone.

In the opening scene Mrs. Orville Beecham unsuccessfully tries to protect herself and her children with a single barreled top break shotgun.
