Manhunter (1986)

Manhunter is a 1986 thriller directed by Michael Mann and was the first feature film adaptation of the Thomas Harris novel Red Dragon. The film marked the first appearance of the Hannibal Lecter character (named Hannibal Lecktor here and portrayed by Brian Cox). The book was later adapted again in 2002 for the film Red Dragon with Anthony Hopkins reprising his Silence of the Lambs version of Lecter.

Handguns

Charter Arms Bulldog

As in the book, FBI Special Agent Will Graham (William Petersen) carries a Charter Arms .44 Special Bulldog when he is used as bait to capture the "Tooth Fairy". He's given Glaser Safety Slugs for the Bulldog for a "guaranteed one-shot stop". He pulls the Bulldog during the sting operation as well in the final confrontation with Francis Dollarhyde (Tom Noonan). In the book, it is described as having a Mag-Na-Ported barrel, bobbed hammer, and a "good set of fat grips".

Charter Arms Bulldog - .44 Special. The gun used in the film appears to be the standard model rather than the police model due to the standard sights and lack of ejector rod shroud.

Spurgeon, played by IPSC shooter and actor Jim Zubiena, gives Graham the Glaser Safety Slugs. He is told these are suspended in liquid Teflon and upon impact opens all up in the target, a "guaranteed one-shot stop".

The Glaser Safety Slugs are visible in this closeup of Graham's Charter Arms Bulldog. This particular angle appears to be a signature Michael Mann shot, as similar shots were seen in Thief and Heat.

A Smith & Wesson 469 is seen carried in an IWB holster by Jack Crawford (Dennis Farina). He is never seen firing this pistol in the film.

Suppressed pistol

Used by Francis Dollarhyde (Tom Noonan) to shot 3 times and kill Ralph Dandridge (Ralph Mandy in original novel), played by Bill Cwikowski). The pistol is covered by something in most of the shots, so it's very difficult to say even what was used in this scene - pistol, or an unknown special effects device. Though, pistol anyway suppressed (that's easy to know cause of its sounds and facts listed about Dollarhyde in the movie and in the novel)

Shotguns

Remington 870

A pistol gripped Remington 870 is used by serial killer Francis Dollarhyde (Tom Noonan) at the end of the film. He kills 2 cops, wounds Jack Crawford (Dennis Farina) and attempts to kill Graham (William Petersen) before he pumps 6 rounds into him with his Bulldog (though before Dollarhyde was also wounded by another cop's bullet). The 870 used in the film was the personal shotgun of the film's weapons expert Jim Zubiena. It was teflon coated with an extended mag tube, muzzle brake, and a Pachmayr pistol grip.
