Long Miles of War (Dolgie vyorsty voyny) is a Soviet 1975 made for TV war movie directed by Aleksandr Karpov and based on short stories by Vasil Bykov. Each of the three series of the movie tells about a small episode of war: the first one, The Cry of Cranes, tells about a small group of Soviet soldiers who defend a position in August 1941, the second one, The Rapid Attack, takes place in March 1942 and depict an attack of Soviet infantry company on German positions on a hilltop, and the third one, At Sunrise, takes place in May 1945 and tells about one of the last battles of the war. All three series are united by the main character of the movie, Lt. (later Sr. Lt. and Major) Konstantin Ananyev (Vadim Yakovlev).

Nagant M1895

A Nagant M1895 revolver is Petty officer Karpenko's (Nikolai Fedortsov) sidearm. It is seen only in holster.

PPD-40

A PPD-40 is carried by Lt. Ananyev (Vadim Yakovlev) in The Cry of Cranes until he gives it to Pvt. Klimchuk (Yuri Duvanov) who uses this SMG in battle. In the firing scenes PPD is substituted with a PPSh-41.

A Goryunov SG-43 is briefly seen in The Rapid Attack. Due to unknown reason it is mounted not on wheeled mount but on a bipod. In reality the only version of Goryunov machine gun, fitted with a bipod, is a Hungarian KGK Géppuska but it also has a pistol grip while the machine gun seen in the movie has spade grips.

Trivia

A PT-76 and BTR-40 appear as German tank and APC.
