Lloyd Avery II
Lloyd Avery II (1969 - 2005) was an American actor who was a high school friend of filmmaker John Singleton. In the early 1990s, Singleton jump-started Avery's acting career by casting him in a short but memorable role as a Blood gang member who kills one of the main characters in Boyz N The Hood. Though he came from a middle-class background and had never been in a gang prior to acting in the film, life began to imitate art when Avery subsequently became obsessed with living out his role in Boyz and joined a Blood gang in real life. After appearing as thugs in several more films throughout the 1990s, Avery was arrested in December 1999 for a double homicide and sentenced to life in prison at Pelican Bay State Prison. He was murdered by his cellmate in 2005.
