Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen is a 2010 Chinese martial arts action movie directed by Andrew Lau (the Infernal Affairs series) starring Donnie Yen, Shu Qi, Anthony Wong Chau-Sang and Ryu Kohata. (Director Andrew Lau should not be confused with Infernal Affairs star Andy Lau.) Although described as a sequel to Fist of Legend, which was directed by co-writer Gordon Chan, this film shares little with Fist of Legend other than the character of Chen Zhen (played by Jet Li in Fist of Legend) and actor Yasuaki Kurata, who plays a different role. Legend of the Fist actually is set about a decade before Fist of Legend, and is more like a convergence point between Fist of Legend, Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury (which Fist of Legend was a remake of) and Donnie Yen's own 1995 Fist of Fury television series based on the Bruce Lee film. While Fist of Legend offers a message of tolerance and understanding in terms of Sino-Japanese relations, Legend of the Fist is filled with clumsy ham-fisted Chinese nationalism that is now commonplace in Chinese films.

The following weapons were used in the film Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen:

Handguns

M1911A1

Many characters use M1911A1s throughout the film.

Pre-War Colt M1911A1 Pistol Commercial - .45 ACP
Japanese assassins open fire with M1911A1s.
General Zeng (Shawn Yue) takes cover from the assassins.
An assassin threatens Chen Zhen (Donnie Yen).
General Zeng holds his M1911A1 on Chen Zhen, demanding information. Note the M1911 in Chen Zhen's hand. (The masked costume is obviously an homage to Bruce Lee's role as Kato in the original Green Hornet television series.)
Chikaraishi Sasaki (Akira) takes aim at a target on the Japanese death list.
Sasaki opens fire. Unlike many other instances in the film which use CGI muzzle flashes, this M1911A1 appears to be actually firing.

Liu Yutian's (Anthony Wong Chau-Sang) assistant (uncredited) opens fire with his M1911A1.

Mauser C96

Shanghai police and Chinese resistance fighters use Mauser C96 pistols.

Inspector Huang Haolong (Huang Bo) and another detective with their C96's out.
Inspector Huang scratches his head in the most unsafe manner possible.
A sack of C96's next to a sack of explosives and a sack of Molotov cocktails. Note that these are not Red 9's.
A resistance fighter returns fire on the oncoming Japanese.
Inspector Huang's C96 holster is seen in this shot. It's not the ideal weapon for a plainclothes officer.

FN Model 1905

Chen Zhen (Donnie Yen) discovers an FN Model 1905 in Kiki's (Shu Qi) purse when she drops it. He picks it up and hands it to her, and she drunkenly points it at him.

Kiki points her pistol at Chen Zhen. (The pencil mustache is part of his disguise as fallen compatriot Qi Tianyuan.)

Nambu Type 14

Japanese officers are armed with Nambu Type 14 pistols.

Rifles

Arisaka Type 38

Arisaka Type 38 are seen in the hands of Japanese troops, Chinese resistance fighters, and Shanghai police. They are also used by French and German troops in France, as it appears the stunt coordinators only had rubber Arisaka stunt rifles available.

Chen Zhen stabs a German soldier. Rubber Arisakas were used for close quarter stunts such as this.
Chen Zhen deflects a bayonet thrust from a German soldier. The sparks are CGI, as rubber weapons are used. Note the taped on bayonet.
A resistance fighter fires his captured Arisaka. This appears to be CGI muzzle flash, as the Arisaka is shown to be firing in semi-automatic.

Special

Donnie Yen working on a fight sequence with a stuntman dressed as a German soldier in a making-of featurette. Note that the German soldier is wearing an anachronistic M1935 Stahlhelm, which should be plentiful in China, rather than the World War I era M1916/17/18.

Lee-Speed Trade Pattern Carbine

One of the French soldiers is using a Lee-Speed Trade Pattern Carbine.

Note the bent bolt handle and the external magazine slightly protruding from the bottom of the receiver.

Chinese M1907 Mauser

German troops use Chinese M1907 Mauser rifles to represent Mauser Gewehr 1898s.

Other

Type 24 Heavy Machine Gun

Allied, German, and Japanese soldiers are seen using Type 24 Heavy Machine Guns, a Chinese variant of the Maxim MG08.
