Ice Station Zebra is a 1968 Cold War thriller based on the novel of the same name written by Alistair MacLean (the spy author whose works have been adapted into films including Where Eagles Dare, The Guns of Navarone and Fear Is the Key). Directed by John Sturges (The Great Escape), the film focuses on the crew of the USS Tigerfish, an American nuclear submarine, which under the guise of a rescue mission is sent to the Arctic to recover a crashed Soviet spy satellite. The cast included Rock Hudson, Ernest Borgnine, and Patrick McGoohan.

Farraday holds the M1911A1 in one hand while opening a detonator for the recovered space capsule.

Walther PPK

Mr. Jones (Patrick McGoohan), a British intelligence agent that accompanies the Americans, uses a Walther PPK throughout the film.

Walther PPK - 9mm Kurz aka 9x17mm (.380 ACP)

Jones points a PPK at Lieutenant Hansen (Ted Hartley) after he is unexpectedly woken up.

Jones talks to LT Hansen and CDR Farraday.

Jones checks the mess building at Ice Station Zebra for survivors.

Jones fires the PPK.

Webley Mk IV Pocket Model

A Webley Mk IV Pocket Model is used by Boris Vaslov (Ernest Borgnine).

Webley Mk IV, 3" barreled "Pocket" model - .38 S&W

Vaslov points his Webley at Captain Anders (Jim Brown).

Vaslov lies on the ground after Anders hits him.

Mr. Jones confronts Vaslov.

Rifles

M16

The U.S Marine platoon providing security for USS Tigerfish during the mission are armed with M16 rifles. 1st Lieutenant Russell Walker (Tony Bill) and Captain Leslie Anders (Jim Brown) are both prominently shown handling the M16 at various points in the film, and some Navy sailors also hold M16s when they are engaged in a standoff with Soviet troops.

The original M16, the first version, using a 20-round magazine, adopted in large numbers by the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. This has the original 3-prong flash hider. It would later be replaced by the upgraded M16A1 - 5.56x45mm

Marines hold their M16s as Captain Anders speaks to them.

Vaslov watches as a Marine reassembles his M16 with his eyes closed.

Anders watches as Soviet jets fly over Ice Station Zebra.

Navy sailors point their M16s at approaching Soviet paratroopers.

Marines fire their M16s during a brief gun battle.

The Soviet paratroopers led by Colonel Ostrovsky (Alf Kjellin) are all armed with Madsen M50 submachine guns.
