Homeland is a television drama/thriller that stars Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison, a CIA officer suffering from bipolar disorder, who in the series' first 3 seasons, is convinced that Sgt. Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), a recently released US Marine who was captured by Al Qaeda near the beginning of the Iraq War, has in fact become a sleeper agent for the terrorist organization. The series, which was loosely adapted from the Israeli television series Hatufim, was produced by Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, who were previously both involved with the series 24. Homeland premiered on Showtime in the US in 2011 and aired for 8 seasons until 2020.
