Harold G. Schrier (1916-1971) enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1936 and received a battlefield commission in 1943 during the Battle of Guadalcanal. During the Battle of Iwo Jima he was assigned to E Company, 2nd Battalion, 28th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division and participated in the flag raising on Mount Suribachi, for which he received the Navy Cross. He was later awarded the Silver Star for another action on Iwo Jima. He received the Bronze Star for his actions during the Battle of Pusan Perimeter during the Korean Conflict.
