Do Not Set Traps for Leshiy... (Ne stavte Leshemu kapkany...)
|
Do Not Set Traps for Leshiy... (a literal translation of original title Ne stavte Leshemu kapkany...) is a Soviet 1981 adventure movie, directed by Vladimir Sarukhanov. The story is set in mid-1920s in Khakassia (a region in south Siberia). Red Army commander Sygda Kirbizhekov (Sattar Dikambayev) infiltrates a gang of Ataman Ignatyev, posing himself as a former Admiral Kolchak's White Army serviceman. But then he has to disappear in taiga and takes the name "Chisayna" (a forest spirit in Khakas myths, same as Russian "Leshiy", hence the title of the movie). Under this name he wages war against a new gang leader, Ataman Turka.
The following weapons were used in the film Do Not Set Traps for Leshiy... (Ne stavte Leshemu kapkany...):
Revolvers
Nagant M1895
Several of Ignatyev's and Turka's men, notably Matvey (Georgiy Nazarenko) and Asan (Edilbek Chokubayev), use Nagant M1895 revolvers.
Pistols
Mauser C96
Mauser C96 pistols are widely used throughout the movie, notably by Sygda Kirbizhekov (Sattar Dikambayev) alias "Chisayna", Chekists and Red Army commanders Nikolay Ilyich Zarudnev (Yuriy Nazarov) and Chemenev (Yuri Majnagashev), gang leaders Ignatyev (Anatoliy Ignatyev) and Turka (Ulmas Alikhodzhayev) and several of their men. It appears to be that a single prop is reused, and this is "Wartime Commercial" model.
Note: see additional images on talk page.

Luger P08
A Luger P08 is briefly seen in hand of Turka's bandit (Yuri Kotyushev).
Rifles
Custom Mosin Nagant
Most Mosin Nagant rifles in the movie are custom shortened Mosin Nagant M1891s. Visually they resemble M1907 Carbines.
Note: see additional images on talk page.

Mosin Nagant M1891 Dragoon
One of Ignatyev's men holds a Mosin Nagant M1891 Dragoon rifle. It can be distinguished from M91/30 by combination of low profile unhooded front sight, hex receiver and the shape of handguard.
Mosin Nagant M1938 Carbine
Some out of time Mosin Nagant M1938 Carbines are also seen.

Mosin Nagant "Obrez"
Turka's men widely use "obrez" sawed-off Mosin Nagant rifles.

Winchester Model 1895
Two sporterized versions of Winchester Model 1895 are seen in the movie, one with long barrel, used by Sygda Kirbizhekov (Sattar Dikambayev) (this rifle is also seen on movie poster), and another one with short barrel, used by Sygda's friend Odnak (Inogam Adylov). Both versions are converted from Russian contract M1895s. These rifles appear the same that were used in Konets imperatora taygi (1978), also filmed by Vladimir Sarukhanov (and also set in Khakassia but a few years earlier).
Vetterli-Vitali M1870/87
A Vetterli-Vitali M1870/87 rifle is seen in hands of Turka's man. A number of such rifles was purchased by Russian Empire from Italy in 1916.
Machine Guns
Lewis
A Lewis Gun is used by bandits in several scenes. This movie prop, identified by a makeshift barrel cover (supposedly it's a damaged piece that was very roughly repared on cinema factory), is seen in several other Gorky Film Studio productions, including Konets imperatora taygi, Khleb, zoloto, nagan and Smotri v oba!.
