The SVD-38 (Samozaryadnaya Vintovka Degtyareva, Obrazets 1938 goda), "Degtyarev self-loading rifle, model of 1938" is based on the design of the breech (carried out with two larvae (stops) symmetrically located in the side walls of the receiver) from the 1932 rifle sample made by V.A. Degtyarev.
The 1938 was developed at TsKB-2. It featured an attached bayonet knife, a 10-round removable magazine, and a UVP rifle optical sight.
