Dawn of the Dead is a 1978 sequel to 1968's Night of the Living Dead. Set after the original outbreak, it sees society begin to collapse. Two news station workers - a intern named Francine (Gaylen Ross), and a news chopper pilot named Stephen (David Emge) decide to take the station's helicopter and leave the city before it's overrun. After meeting up with Philadelphia SWAT officers Peter (Ken Foree) and Roger (Scott H. Reiniger), they soon run low on fuel and set up shop in a local mall overrun with the undead.

Revolvers
Arminius HW-5T Revolver
The Arminius HW-5T is a common revolver in the movie, used by the apartment dwellers in the beginning as well as the Philadelphia SWAT team, including Peter and Roger.

Röhm RG-38
When the Project Apartments residents charge the SWAT team, Martinez (Joe Shelby) used a nickel-plated snubnose Röhm RG-38. While waiting for Roger (Scott H. Reiniger) to return as a zombie Peter (Ken Foree) appears to be holding another (more than likely the same) nickel-plated snubnose Röhm RG-38. This same revolver is seen earlier in Roger's hands.
Röhm RG-38 - .38 Special. Note the revolver used in the film is a 3 inch barreled nickel variant. It can be differentiated by it's medium sized ejector rod, which is longer than a FIE Titan Tiger's, but shorter and more evenly cylindrical than a Arminius HW-5T's.

Joe Shelby) puts a hole in one of Roger's teammates, while Rico falls back against the building, evading the fight.

Röhm RG-66
The revolver that Stephen finds in the maintenance office is a Röhm RG-66. He uses it throughout the film. In a continuity error, Wooley's Arminius turns into Stephen's Röhm RG-66.
Röhm RG-66 - .22 Magnum. This version is fitted with a so called 'Quick Draw' barrel length (4.75 inches). The revolver seen in the film has a longer 'Artillery' length barrel (7.5 inches).

Ruger Single Six
A Ruger Single Six is seen loaded by Stephen aka "Flyboy".
Early variant of the Ruger Single Six with the black plastic grips (and Ruger Logo) - .22 LR (1953-1973). This is an early 3 screw model that was made between 1953-1962. The revolver in the film is fitted with a brass frame.

Herters SA22
A Herters SA22 with pearl grips is carried around by Francine (Gaylen Ross) for most of the movie.

Bored out of her mind, Francine plays dress up and poses with her Herters SA22 in the makeup mirror to kill the hours waiting inside the Shopping Mall.
Colt 1851 Navy
During the gun shop scene, Peter is seen holstering what appears to be a pair of Colt 1851 Navy black powder revolvers. More than likely they are replicas manufactured by Uberti or Pietta. The brass frames indicate they are "Confederate" models and the stepped cylinders indicate they are .44 caliber. A brass framed .44 1851 never existed during the American Civil War, however.

During the gun store scene there is a brief glimpse of a Colt Python in the display case. It is taken by Peter but never used.

Peter (Ken Foree) contemplates committing suicide with this gun until he decides to go with Fran (Gaylen Ross) to help protect her and her unborn baby. The derringer in the store is chambered in .41, where the one Peter (Ken Foree) uses is chambered in .22.

One of the bikers, Mousey (Larry Vaira) who invade the mall near the end is seen using a M1921AC Thompson Submachine Gun with a 50 round drum magazine. Another biker is also seen with one.

Rifles & Carbines
Adler-Jager AP-74
The standard issue rifle to both the Philadelphian SWAT team and the US National Guardsmen in the movie is the Adler-Jager AP-74s standing in for the actual M16. Many shots reveal the AP-74s' very small magazine and different flashhider. For most of the movie, the AP-74's are never actually fired, more mimed fired by the actors with sound and muzzle flash added afterwards. It's used by Peter (Ken Foree) and Roger (Scott H. Reiniger) from the beginning all the way until they raid the mall's gun shop.

Soldiers of the 28th Infantry Division (Keystone Patch) aka "Pennsylvania National Guard" with AP-74's meant to stand in for M16A1's. There is a mix of actual US Army National Guardsmen and actors. The difference between them is striking - The 'actors' look like long haired "college age students" with plain helmet liners only (no steel pot), non-subdued 28th Infantry Div. patch (red Keystone), and anachronistic Green M43 10-pocket M1 Garand Belts. The Real National Guardsmen have 'Nam-era leaf Pattern Helmet covers, shorter hair, and LCE (ALICE) web gear with correct nylon M16 ammo pouches.
Savage Model 99
Peter (Ken Foree) takes a scoped Savage 99 lever action rifle, chambered in .300 Savage, from the gun store for his personal use. He later uses it against the bikers when they invade the mall.

(The words 300 magnum are clearly seen on the box and the artwork of the casing says "Weatherby"). Since the Savage Model 99 was never chambered in .300 Wby Mag, this is a error.

Stephen originally uses a Marlin Model 983 rifle but is incompetent with it. During the sequence when Roger (Scott H. Reiniger) and Peter (Ken Foree) are venturing forth from the safety of the mall to get the trucks Fran (Gaylen Ross) provides cover fire from the roof of the mall with it.
