Charlie's Angels (1976-1981)

Charlie's Angels is an American television action series, which was created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts and was produced by Aaron Spelling. It follows the crime-fighting adventures of three women working at a private detective agency in Los Angeles, California, and originally starred Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett (billed as Farrah Fawcett-Majors), and Jaclyn Smith in the leading roles and John Forsythe providing the voice of their boss, the unseen Charlie Townsend, who directed the crime-fighting operations of the "Angels" over a speakerphone. Dubbed his "angels", the women solved cases that often involved undercover work.

Charlies Angels aired in the United States on ABC from 22 September 1976 to 24 June 1981, producing five seasons and 115 episodes. There were a few casting changes: after the departure of Farrah Fawcett, Cheryl Ladd joined; after Kate Jackson departed, Shelley Hack joined, who was subsequently replaced by the future Bondgirl Tanya Roberts.

The series would also spawn several "reboots", including a 2011 television revival, and three feature films in Charlie's Angels (2000), Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003), these starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu, and Charlie's Angels (2019). There is also the beat 'em up video game Charlie's Angels (2003), based on the 2000 movie, developed by Neko Entertainment and published by Ubisoft for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube.

The show received mixed reviews from critics, accused of specifically emphasizing the sex appeal of the female leads. However, Charlie's Angels enjoyed huge popularity with audiences and was a top ten hit in the Nielsen ratings for its first two seasons. By the third season, however, the show had fallen from the top 10. In the fifth season, the show fell out of the Top 30. Notwithstanding, Charlie's Angels continues to have a 1970s American cult and pop culture following through syndication, DVD releases, and subsequent television shows. Among the many notable guest stars to feature in the show were future James Bond Timothy Dalton, Cesar Romero, Kim Basinger and Tom Selleck.
