Talk:Miami Vice (TV Series)

From Internet Movie Firearms Database - Guns in Movies, TV and Video Games
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Changed "the weapons used in this series" to "some of the weapons used" because the list isn't complete off course.

For instance; I miss the rocket launcher (think it was a "Stinger") used in the episode where they blew up Crockett's Ferrari Daytona Spyder 365 GTS/4 that got replaced by a Ferrari Testarossa later...

I do not think that was a Serbu Shorty....pretty sure it was a custom cut-down Ithaca 37 Stakeout. Best evidence of that is that there is not ejection port visible which there should be given the position of the weapon in the picture.

Uzi

An Uzi is used by the hired killer (Jim Zubiena) in the episode: Calderone's Return. Part 1: The Hit List There is some debate as to whether it was an UZI or perhaps a Ruger Mini-14 (the militarized version AC-566)with a folding stock used by the killer in the above named episode.

If you're talking about the shootout in Belinda Crcokett's house it's an AC556.--78.146.66.194 17:39, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
IMI Uzi 9mm
Stainless Steel Ruger AC556/GB-F ("Government Barrel, Folding Stock") - 5.56mm

Okay. Thanks for the input. --Jcordell 19:07, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Work in progress

I'm working on this a little at a time. Some of the main sidearms used by the main characters will be blank for a while until I get to that season. I figure the main characters primary guns go first then the thugs and whatever guest star in an episode. Predator20 02:44, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

I predict that this page is going to have a looooootttt of guns by the time this is finished. -Gunman69 16:25, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
There is almost 50 on the list right now, but a lot of caps are missing. I hope to see 80+ by the time it's all done. We got a ways to to go. I hope to do at least 2 episodes a week. Predator20 01:02, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

The screencaps look great. The page is really coming along. --Jcordell 16:23, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

It really is. I think we are going to have much more than 80 guns. I think we should get as many pics as possible, then when it's all done, we'll weed some of the pics out, so that the page isn't overcrowded with pics, especially the guns that all the villains seem to use, like the MAC-10 or the 1911s (they are always used by henchmen, we get it, lol) because I think by the end we will have literally hundreds of pics. What do you guys think? -Gunman69 23:42, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Guys Remember, A M16 without a foward assist is just a M16. Not a M16A1.-Oliveira 23:48, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Oliveira, some here aren't M16 experts, I haven't studied them enough (don't really care too), neither is Gunman69 I guess since he's been posting the M16 pics lately. Point them out and we'll fix them. --Predator20 23:54, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm fixing them. I find hard to belive you two don't know what a Forward Assist is. I mean, is it that hard to see the difference between the M16's receiver and the M16A1?-Oliveira 00:01, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Like I said Oliveira, I haven't studied them enough. I don't really care for M16s. I have a Mini-14 myself.
Gunman69, if that is the case. It will be one of largest here. Yeah we'll have to weed out some of the pics. I think 10 pics per gun max works best. --Predator20 00:09, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, that seems like a good amount. And I think that will be the case because we haven't even gone through a whole season and we already have like 70 guns. -Gunman69 00:54, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Wow, this page is really shaping up to be impressive! I'm amazed you guys have the work ethic to do a show like this, which had a huge variety of weapons and ran for multiple seasons. I'm always afraid to do TV shows, because there tend to be way too many guns that getting them all is a nightmarish prospect. -MT2008

Even though I have some movies I'd like to cap. I saw what poor shape this page was in a week ago, surprising for a popular show in its time . I decided something needed to be done. I have all the seasons on dvd, Gunman69 has most of season 2. So I think in another month and half, most of it will done. I'm going to cap "Smugglers Blues" tonight. The last few episodes of season 1, I have done haven't had crap. --Predator20 01:19, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks MT2008! This page looked terrible before, but it looks much, much better now. It's going to be a huge page when it gets all done, likely one of the biggest on IMFDB. I never actually realized how many guns were used in this show until we started working on this page! -Gunman69 05:47, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Zubiena Stepped in

Looks like our buddy Jim Zubiena went to the page and commented. Could any one make the comment more, "aceptable" to the wiki?-Oliveira 16:06, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Where did he commment? I ask because the only people who have made edits to this page in the past few days are Predator20, Jcordell, and yours truly. -Gunman69 16:34, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh. Then Predator must have added it in. He did it poorly though.-Oliveira 16:37, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
I posted a link from a Miami Vice forum where he is a member and answered questions that where asked. My sig is after the link. Not sure where the confusion could come from, Oliveira. The link to the forum is on Jim Zubiena discussion page. The comment I added on the Ruger AC-556 is his own words from the forum. Predator20 17:10, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Also Oliveira, I'm not going to change the comment to make it more "acceptable" to the wiki, those are his own words. Don't fuck with it. Predator20 17:20, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Hey man, what i meant was make the comment something like what it is now. Put quotation marks on each end and say that Zubiena was the one who said it. What you did was stupid. You didn't put quotation marks. Jesus wept. I didn't say that we should make his words more "family friendly". God damm.-Oliveira 17:28, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Hey, easy guys. It's all fixed. Not a big deal. -Gunman69 17:42, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
You're bitching about a set of quotation marks, get real. When I pasted the comment I said "quoted from Jim Zubiena himself" before the comment. If that doesn't explain it, I don't know what to tell you. Anyway lets move on, I have snapshots to do. Predator20

Come on guys. This isn't a site where the contributers flame each other. Lets all play nice. Otherwise we'll end up like the contributers over on Wikipedia. Bunch of quarrelsome, cantakerous old men. --Jcordell 01:44, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Lol, yes, I agree. They just all love to argue. They should stop playing on the internet and become lawyers instead haha. -Gunman69 02:38, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm way past a set of missing quotation marks. Anyway how does the page look to you guys? Only 9 episodes in right now. The only thing bugs me a little bit is the grain you see in some shots. '80s show have to live with it. Predator20 03:10, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Doesn't matter to me. It looks soooooo much better than it did! It really annoyed me that a great show like this had such a poor page, but it looks outstanding now. Excellent, excellent work! -Gunman69 03:27, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Does it have that many guns in those last nine episodes?-Oliveira 13:47, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, yeah. I know it's hard to believe but it was a very gun heavy show. -Gunman69 16:10, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Some of the guns in the list we haven't got to yet. Crocketts new sidearms, etc. But I hope to see at least 80 by the time it's all done. Thanks for all the help guys. Predator20 16:25, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, at least now i contribuited. You mislabbeld the M16 as a M16A1. Remember to look at the receiver of the guns, not just the handguards.-Oliveira 16:33, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Rifle used by Jim Zubiena in The Hit List episode.

Mr. Zubiena responded to my posting on the Miami Vice forum. Here is his inital response:

"Hello JC, As stated in the longer post I don't believe the rifle was American made. I recollect it being a Steyr or some other European manufacturer. I went to your link and found it... flattering. BUT I have never been referred to as "lighting Jim" except by a single writer who made that up a bunch of years ago. I don't even know who he is but I was not called that in any circle I frequented. I check in here once in awhile so feel free to question. Jim"

Looking at the screencaps and the image of the Steyr - Mannlicher Sporter on the Steyr-Mannlicher page there does seem to be a resemblance. In later production of the Sporter Steyr added a cover to the bolt mechanism to make it more streamlined and possibly for portection. The image imfdb has apears to be of an earlier production model but everything else matches. Opinons? --Jcordell 18:08, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Mannlicher-Schoenauer Sporter with Scope

Here is a photo of a Steyr Mannlicher Sport that I found on a gunshop website. It resembles the one used in the episode. --Jcordell 18:14, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Mannlicher Sport.jpg

Just use that. Better than unknown. I remember reading in the long thread, not Jim but another member wrote something about a Steyr, went back to check it, but the site was down. Predator20 18:18, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Okay. I'll add that info. --Jcordell 18:19, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

JCORDELL, YOU ROCK! Good job identifying that gun! -Gunman69 18:31, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. We're lucky that Mr. Zubiena is an active contributer to the Miami Vice forum. Always nice solving a puzzle and it's nice to know that he likes our site. --Jcordell 18:33, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Colombian, Columbian screw up

I don't want to see anybody write Columbian when refering to Colombians. Got it?-Oliveira 18:20, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Easy, dude. It was a minor spelling error. That's all. My mistake. -Gunman69 18:29, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
And I got chewed out over a set of quotations marks. Any lets put it to bed. Predator20 18:36, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
I'll continue my Crusade on this site against your American Pig-Dogs and you stupid Ignorancy of Allied countries. Next Stop: Toy Soldiers. Goodbye!-Oliveira 18:45, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

So are you kidding or have you had a change of heart and are no longer planning on joining the United States Army? Calm down. You'll learn (as you get older and mature a little bit more) that people in all countries are somewhat ignorant of other nations. I lived in Germany for three years and often found their misconceptions of the United States to be absolutely mind-blowing. However I didn't go around calling them kraut eating goose steppers. So once again are you kidding or have you had a melt-down? I'm sure the mistake will be fixed. Oh and I fixed your language. Using the big F Bomb dosen't make one sound more intelligent or reasonable. --Jcordell 18:57, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

I was being sarcastic, Jcordell. Jeez. I can't believe someone actually thought me, a immigrant who wanted to Join the United States Army, was going to actually call Americans "Pig-Dogs" without irony. Besides, i just Hate Misconceptions about Countries. I ran into my fair Share of retarded "America Bad!" bullshit in my school. Hell, my Portuguese teacher thinks that we Invaded Iraq for Oil.-Oliveira 19:02, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, Oliveira, we're talking on the internet. You can't really tell if someone is being sarcastic by their "tone of voice", so I could see why Jcordell thought that. -Gunman69 21:28, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
I know. Is just that i tried to make it as ridiculous as possible. And also make it as something that i would never say, really.-Oliveira 21:38, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Okay. I understand. I wasn't sure but I was giving you the benefit of the doubt.--Jcordell 22:12, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
