The following guns were used in the film:

A Beautiful Mind (2001).
Colt M1911A1
Parcher (Ed Harris) is prominantly seen using an Colt M1911A1 handgun several time through out the film. Proper gun rules can be disregarded as Parcher and his .45 are a simple figment of John Nash's (Russell Crowe) imagination.

Parcher threatens to shoot Alicia Nash (Jennifer Connelly), John's wife, with his M1911A1. Of course, she is unbeknownst to this, as Parcher is only in John's head.
Flash-paper M1911A1
When Parcher fires his 1911 very close to John, it changes to a harmless Flash-paper gun which companies like ISSprops.com sell.

M1 Garand
When John refuses to take his medication, he runs outside and is surrounded by U.S. Army soldiers armed with M1 Garands with flashlights tape on the ends, being once again convinced by Parcher that he is not hallucinating.
