The Modern Sub Machine Carbine (MSMC) is the Armament Research and Development Establishment & Ordnance Factories Board's latest addition to the INSAS program for the Indian Army. The MSAS follows the same layout as other submachine guns like the Uzi and MAC-10 with a pistol grip which houses a 30-round box magazine. It also features a retractable buttstock as well as ambidextrous cocking levers and fire selector switches present on both sides of the receiver, allowing it to be easily operated with either hand.
In late 2013, the weapon was renamed to Joint Venture Protective Carbine (JVPC), and received some improvements.
