The Type 85 is a family of Chinese submachine guns (including suppressed and unsuppressed variants) formalized in 1985. The weapon was developed to replace the Type 64 submachine gun and the Type 79 submachine gun. It was developed and manufactured by Factory 9616 (now known as Hubei Jianghua Machinery Co Ltd), and was trialed alongside a number of other Chinese submachine gun designs.
