Rick Flag's carbine is not a Mk 18 Mod 1

The carbine slung on Flag.
Closer look at Flag's (Joel Kinnaman) MK18 from one of five Esquire covers. It appears to have a Magpul CTR stock, green buffer tube, Aimpoint T2 red dot, Geissele MK4 MLOK handguard in OD Green, PEQ-15 laser system, possibly a Surefire Mini Scout light, a Magpul AFG-2 forward grip and what appears to be a BCM compensator.

This is clearly not a Mk 18 Mod 1, or the Daniel Defense MK18 (which is the most common Mk 18 Mod 1 clone seen in Hollywood); that terminology is reserved for a 10.3" barreled AR with the Daniel Defense MK18 RIS II rail system, whereas this gun has the Geissele MK4 handguard (as the page itself notes). I'm nearly positive that Flag's AR carbine is actually the same gun that Larry Vickers and Ken Hackathorn handled when they last visited Independent Studio Services (ISS) in 2019. See Part 3 of the 2019 series, here, specifically around 22:45. Here are some screenshots from the video as well:

This gun is a Colt RO933 (you can see the Colt rollmarks in the second screenshot) that has been retrofitted with the Geissele MK4 rail (ODG version) and low profile gas block. In the Vickers Tactical video, Karl Weschta mentions that this carbine was set up to be a clone of the FBI SWAT/HRT carbines, though he didn't say what production it was built for, and overall, the configuration is a pretty close match for the specs of the FBI's Colt 933s. It seems that ISS rented out this same gun, in the same configuration that it was in when Larry Vickers and Ken Hackathorn saw it, for the production of The Suicide Squad. It's interesting that it was chosen as Rick Flag's new carbine, given that the character is an Army Special Forces officer, so a Geissele URGI-based carbine would have made more sense (and as we've seen recently, there are now URGIs in Hollywood's prop houses). I'm also nearly positive that Flag's carbine in this movie was also used - albeit with a different accessories configuration - by Beulah Koale in the last season of Hawaii Five-0 (it's currently one of the "Unknown" carbines on the page).

Also: Contrary to what the page says: The flash hider on the gun is a Surefire WarComp Closed Tine, and the IR laser is a Steiner Optics DBAL. Both accessories are "clone correct" for the FBI's Colt 933 carbines (though KAC NT4 flash hiders are more common, and the DBAL would more likely be the black version). -MT2008 (talk) 19:36, 15 December 2021 (EST)
