Talk:Stargate SG-1 - Season 1

Who's idea was this?

Ok, who got the bright idea to splitting this up into sections. That's 10 unnecessary pages where we got repeat images of firearms and would 10x the volume of screen caps. I COULD screen cap each season but this is just a mess. If you are unfamiliar with the show, you can not tell which screen cap that has been posted belong to which season! This was completely not needed at all. 24 and Miami Vice did it because it was original done that way. The SG-1 page was created from the ground up to not split into its 10 separate seasons. 24 and Miami Vice both started out as one page. They were both split because of size. I think 24 had its seasons split on one page, but Vice was not. Milkovich has steadily been adding more screencaps, because of room on the main page, he's been having to add them on the talk page. I much rather look through a list of 10 handguns than 30.--Predator20 02:39, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
First of all, next time, you might want to start this discussion on what is now the index page for the 10 seasons, at Stargate SG-1. Second, I don't see how you can argue this is "unnecessary". Before the original page was divided, it was getting gigantic - easily the size of the page for 24 before we decided that that show had to be divided. I think the rule of thumb needs to be that if any TV show has guns almost every episode (Stargate SG-1 being a very good example) and lasts more than 2 seasons, it probably needs separate pages for each season.
Also, Excalibur, please don't get offended if I'm mistaken, but are you just angry because dividing this show into seasons kills off the competition you had with GunMaster45 (the one where you two became obsessed with creating the TV page with the highest weapons counts)? Because while I'd like to believe you're more mature than that, I'm going to lose major respect for you if that's what this is about. -MT2008 02:49, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Look, you're reading my comment as anger first. I'm just saying that a couple days ago, I didn't see any discussion to divide this page up and suddenly it's divided into 10 sections. I'm just a bit jaded by the sudden change. I didn't make the page to be a "competition". That idea was old and I can only joke about it. I don't care who's got the bigger page. I apologize for going over everyone's head with this. When I read Predator's suggestion I felt that it would be a pretty good idea. Next time I'll add a discussion first. And if you wish to move back to the old page it's only a question of deleting the seasons and reverting the original Stargate SG-1 page. --Milkovich 06:36, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Just my opinion, but I preferred the old way. With a show like 24, it makes sense to split it up as it is a different situation each time with a new crop of guns. SG-1 is just a continuing story with the same core guns used for each season, so each page has the standard M9, MP5, P90, M4, M16 etc., with a few random ones thrown in that aren't indicative of the season, just a random episode or two where the aliens are for some reason in our WWII era. For example M16A1 is listed for every season, with the same two screen shots. The whole thing just seems a but redundant and over the top IMO. Granted it does make it easier if someone saw a mystery gun in an episode and wanted to look it up (assuming they knew what season it was from, if not this way makes it harder), and it does mean that more screenshots can be added without spamming a page, but this seems to be the only advantage. --commando552 10:35, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

I disagree. This show's weapons selection has evolved considerably over the seasons...MP5s being replaced by P90s, XM177s being replaced by M4s, new weapons like the G36 series coming in, etc. There are a lot of weapons currently listed for every season, but this is inaccurate and will hopefully be fixed as the pages are cleaned up to be season-specific (for example, the M4 is listed every season, even though M4s didn't start appearing on the show until about the 5th season). -MT2008 15:46, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
And that's what this looks like, a bit of a mess. Also the redundancies. Every season up to 5 have the MP5 as the primary weapons of the cast and then it changed to the P90s and every season since 5 have P90s. I'll need to rewatch every season to see which of the "non standard" weapons come in and take appropriate screen caps of the weapons that do come back every season. Also about the famous stock footage of those 2 guards walking with their M16A1s. They make an appearance in every season even though it's stock footage. Should they be reposted in every page? Excalibur01 16:22, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Anyone know what the optic is used on the MP5?

I've always wondered what the optic was that they used on the MP5s in the Stargate series. Does anyone know? DarkSamuraiX1999 14:44, 1 May 2013 (PST)

I don't know if it has a specific name, but it is the standard Colt AR-15 carry handle sight. The original ones were 3x20, later were 4x20. It is meant to attach to the top of the carry handle on AR-15s, to get it to attach to an MP5 you need to modify it and bolt it to a railed claw mount. I doubt that this is an original Colt scope as they are pretty expensive, and I believe there would be a slight step about an inch from the front which is absent on these scopes, but replicas are made by many companies such as Hakko, Leapers and Cybergun to name a few. --commando552 (talk) 18:08, 1 May 2013 (EDT)
