Unidentified Kalashnikovs

Not enough detail to make a proper ID. --Funkychinaman 16:12, 31 January 2012 (CST)

These are both Zastava M70AB2s. In the second shot you can clearly see the grenade launcher sight. In the first if you brighten/contrast it you can just make out the rear tip of the folded sight poking out the back of the cloth. THey both seem to have some kind of BFA/flash hider instead of the standard AKM compensator. --commando552 17:34, 31 January 2012 (CST)
Thanks! --Funkychinaman 17:36, 31 January 2012 (CST)
Also, in the AKMSU screenshot, the two other rifles are the solid stocked M70B1. You can see the grenade launcher sight on the nearest, and on the rear one you can see that there are three vent holes on the handguard, a Zastava unique feature. --commando552 17:38, 31 January 2012 (CST)
The picture for the AKS-47 is a M70AB2 as well: you can see the grenade launching sight, it is a stamped gun (can tell by the stock) yet has the wider AK-47 sight and it has the AKM compensator. --commando552 17:51, 31 January 2012 (CST)
I did take another look at that one as well. I've made all the changes. Thank you very much. --Funkychinaman 17:58, 31 January 2012 (CST)

AK/R5's

It just occurred to me that the Type 84S' might be modded R5's. How do you tell the difference? --Funkychinaman 16:53, 31 January 2012 (CST)

You are right, they are R4/5 based guns. You can tell by the design of the magazine, but more definitively you can tell by the receiver. On all Galil type guns the bottom of the receiver slopes upwards in front of the magazine well. On the South African guns they also have the indent above the magazine well like the AK-47, but due to the different receiver shape this indent goes off of the edge of the weapon which is quite distinctive, and can be seen in the second screenshot. --commando552 17:26, 31 January 2012 (CST)
Thanks. I changed it. It does leave one shot in limbo though. I'm pretty sure the Chechnyan scenes were filmed in Canada, which wouldn't have R5s. --Funkychinaman 17:36, 31 January 2012 (CST)

That one has the Type 84S magazine and what looks like a conventional receiver. Also, Type 84S's appear in other Canadian productions such as Stargate SG-1, Sliders and BSG. --commando552 17:42, 31 January 2012 (CST)
