Southland - Season 5 (2013)

The following weapons can be seen in Season 5 of the series Southland:

Handguns

Glock 22

Officer Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie) continues to carry the .40 caliber Glock 22 (which at the time was the department-issued duty weapon for the LAPD). Other officers and detectives also carry the Glock 22, including Det. Ruben Robinson (Dorian Missick), Officer Dave Mendoza (Chad Michael Murray), and Officer Gary Steele (Derek Ray).

Glock 22 - .40 S&W

Officer Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie) has his .40 caliber Glock 22 (which is the current standard-issue handgun for the LAPD) at the ready while chasing down a fleeing suspect in "Heat" (S5E02).

In "Hats and Bats" (S5E01), Officer Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie) draws the Glock 22 on a shooting suspect.

In "Hats and Bats" (S5E01), Officer Gary Steele (Derek Ray) keeps his Glock leveled at a suspect in a pawn shop.

Beretta 92FS

Several veteran LAPD officers and detectives carry the Beretta 92FS as their sidearm, including Officer Sammy Bryant (Shawn Hatosy), Officer Bill "Dewey" Dudek (C. Thomas Howell), Sergeant Terry Hill (Jamie McShane), Sergeant Waters (Lesley Fera), and Officer Hank Lucero (Anthony Ruivivar). A suspect who fires at Officers Cooper and Steele in "Heat" (S5E02) uses a Beretta. In "Babel" (S5E03), Bryant uses his Beretta to trade fire with an active shooter and later bring the shooter down aside fellow officers. Lucero uses his Beretta in a felony stop (inspired by an episode of COPS), with the hammer cocked back in single-action, which most officers refrain from using unless they are already engaged with their weapon in a gunfight. In Season 5's finale "Reckoning" (S5E10), Detective Lydia Adams carries a Beretta 92FS as her sidearm when she is in uniform as a Sergeant. Because uniformed officers are not allowed to carry compact autos, Adams likely owns the Beretta from her time as a patrol officer in the late-1990s when the Beretta was standard-issue.

In "Heat" (S5E02), a man who opens fire on Cooper and Steele tries to clear his jammed Beretta.

In "Babel" (S5E03), Officer Hank Lucero (Anthony Ruivivar) draws his Beretta during a felony stop. The Beretta is in double-action configuration in this screencap, but it is cocked back in single-action later in the scene, which most officers refrain from using unless they are already engaged with their weapon in a gunfight.

Officer Lucero's Beretta is given up to the LAPD as evidence in "Reckoning" (S5E10). Detective Robinson clearly identifies the pistol as a "Beretta 92FS" and Officer Dudek (C. Thomas Howell) identifies it as "police issue" (the Beretta is also the sidearm carried by Dudek and was the issued-sidearm of the LAPD at the time Lucero joined the force).

Smith & Wesson 5906

Officer John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) continues to carry the Smith & Wesson 5906 as his duty sidearm. This weapon is on the LAPD approved carry list. In "Heat" (S5E02), Cooper is seen using his 5906 to trade shots with a suspect who fired on him and Steele. One of the men who kidnaps Lucero and Cooper is seen holding both at gunpoint with Cooper's weapon in "Chaos" (S5E09), and later firing the stolen 5906 at Detectives Adams and Robinson in Season 5's finale "Reckoning" (S5E10).

Smith & Wesson 5906 - 9x19mm

Officer John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) keeps his Smith & Wesson 5906 at the ready while taking a suspect into custody in "Hats and Bats" (S5E01).

Smith & Wesson 4506

In "The Felix Paradox" (S5E08), two LAPD officers serving a search warrant with Officers Cooper and Lucero carry the Smith & Wesson 4506, at one point using their sidearms to use deadly force against a suspect who shoots at them through a closed closet door. An officer in "Reckoning" (S5E10) appears to carry the Smith & Wesson 4506 when they corner a suspect. The Smith & Wesson 4506 is on the LAPD's approved carry list.

Smith & Wesson 4506 - .45 ACP

The LAPD officers on either side of Officer Lucero can both be seen with their Smith & Wesson 4506's drawn after the shooting in "The Felix Paradox" (S5E08). The barrels are slightly longer than the Smith & Wesson 5906 that Officer Cooper carries. Note all of the handguns in this screenshot are in double-action configuration despite being fired only moments before; this indicates a separate take.

Smith & Wesson 3913

Detective Lydia Adams (Regina King) continues to carry a Smith & Wesson 3913 as her on-duty sidearm. She is juxtaposed with uniformed officers on the show in that she is not often seen drawing her weapon. This also appears to be the pistol fired by a crazed gunman in "Off-Duty" (S5E05).

Smith & Wesson 3914

Officer Sammy Bryant (Shawn Hatosy) carries a Smith & Wesson 3914, the blue-steel version of the 3913, as his off-duty firearm. In "Off-Duty" (S5E05), he draws it while working his second job as a celebrity bodyguard to defend himself and his client against a crazed suspect firing at vehicles in the street. He doesn't fire the weapon in the scene. In "The Felix Paradox" (S5E08), Bryant draws his 3914 when he comes home to find the aftermath of a break-in.

Smith & Wesson 3914 - 9x19mm

Kimber Custom TLE II

In "The Felix Paradox" (S5E08), an officer that serves a search warrant carries a Kimber Custom TLE II. This is the standard-issue sidearm of LAPD SWAT. Chief Charlie Beck (himself) carries the Kimber during his cameo in "Reckoning" (S5E10).

Kimber Custom TLE II - .45 ACP

In "The Felix Paradox" (S5E08), Officer Huynh covers Officer Dudek (C. Thomas Howell) as a window is broken open.

A Kimber Custom TLE II appears to be the pistol carried by LAPD Chief Charlie Beck during a press conference in "Reckoning" (S5E10). Beck is the real-life chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, and is often seen carrying a Smith & Wesson 4506 when he appears in public.

Seecamp LWS

A Seecamp LWS is confiscated from a suspect's young child by Officer Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie) in "The Felix Paradox" (S5E08).

Seecamp LWS-32 - .32 ACP

"Woah, gun!" Officer Ben Sherman moves in to snatch a Seecamp LWS from a suspect's toddler when the child unexpectedly pulls it out in "The Felix Paradox" (S5E08).

Revolvers

Smith & Wesson Model 60

A Smith & Wesson Model 60 is used by a pawn shop employee in order to test a ballistic vest in "Hats and Bats" (S5E01). In "Bleed Out" (S5E06), a handcuffed suspect who was not searched is seen firing a single shot at Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) and Lucero (Anthony Ruivivar) among their fellow officers with a Smith & Wesson Model 60.

Classic Smith & Wesson Model 60 - .38 Special

A Smith & Wesson Model 60 is confiscated from a pawn shop employee by Officer Cooper after he fires several shots at the owner in order to test a ballistic vest in "Hats and Bats" (S5E01).

Smith & Wesson Model 36

In "Under the Big Top" (S5E04), what appears to be a Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolver is taken off a suspect during a search by Officer Cooper.

In "Under the Big Top" (S5E04), what appears to be a Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolver is taken off a suspect during a search by Cooper.

The Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolver is seen in Lucero's left hand in "Under the Big Top" (S5E04).

Smith & Wesson Model 19

In "Bleed Out" (S5E06), Officer Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) finds a Smith & Wesson Model 19 with rubber grips on on a table in Hicks' (Gerald McRaney), his former FTO, (Field Training Officer) boat where he resides. It is shown to be a Model 19 by the barrel underlug, which the Model 15 (the actual former LAPD-issue revolver) lacks.

Smith & Wesson Model 19 - .357 Magnum

In "Bleed Out" (S5E06), Cooper sees the cocked Smith & Wesson Model 19 on the table in Hicks' (Gerald McRaney) boat. This is likely Hicks' old LAPD service revolver, although in reality this revolver was not issued like the Smith & Wesson Model 15.

Smith & Wesson Model 65

A 3"-barreled Smith & Wesson Model 65 is used by one of Cooper's wife's suspicious neighbors in Season 5's finale "Reckoning" (S5E10). He is disarmed by Cooper, who viciously beats the other suspect with the butt of the revolver until confronted by LAPD officers.

Shotguns

Remington 870 Police Riot Magnum

The Remington 870 Police Riot Magnum is the standard shotgun used by the LAPD in the series. In Season 5's premiere "Hats and Bats" (S5E01), an officer responding to a riot situation carries the modified Remington loaded with non-lethal beanbag rounds. In "Babel" (S5E03), an officer uses a live Remington 870 to volley-fire at an active shooter with Officers Sherman and Bryant when the shooter returns to the scene. Officer Bryant owns two Remington 870's (with black furniture) for home-defense, and is seen removing them both from a gun safe and giving one to Officer Sherman when Bryant receives a gang threat in "The Felix Paradox" (S5E08).

Remington 870 "Less Lethal" - 12 Gauge

Remington 870 Police Magnum Riot Shotgun - 12 Gauge

In Season 5's premiere "Hats and Bats" (S5E01), an officer responding to a riot situation carries the modified Remington loaded with non-lethal beanbag rounds (as evidenced by its green synthetic furniture).

Officer Cooper holds the modified Remington in "Babel" (S5E03).

In "Babel" (S5E03), an officer on the right fires a Remington 870 at an active shooter.

Officer Bryant on the right holds the "non-lethal" Remington 870 while Sherman holds the live-firing Remington in "Bleed Out" (S5E06). Notice actor Shawn Hatosy's finger is on the trigger, such firearm safety violations are rare on this show, but perhaps intentional to depict his character's lack of focus to his job in this episode.

Mossberg 500 Cruiser

In "Babel" (S5E03), what appears to be a Mossberg 500 Cruiser with an extended mag tube is used by a white supremacist to perform an active shooter-style attack on an ESL support group at an LA community center. He fires the weapon in close proximity to Officer Sherman's ear when he blows a shot through an exterior doorway, temporarily deafening Sherman. The shooter escapes the scene, but later returns with the same Mossberg and fires it at the crowd of LAPD officers and civilians.

In "Babel" (S5E03), an active shooter fires his Mossberg 500 Cruiser in close proximity to Officer Sherman's ear, causing temporary hearing loss. This is very likely a non-gun to ensure the actor's safety, as the shotgun has no recoil when fired.

In "Babel" (S5E03), the shooter later returns with the same Mossberg shotgun and fires two shots at the crowd of LAPD officers and civilians before being shot in a volley of gunfire from officers. Note the red shell being ejected to the left of the shot.

Browning Auto-5

In "Chaos" (S5E09), one of the suspects who kidnaps Cooper and Lucero is armed with a Browning Auto-5 shotgun.

In Season 5's premiere "Hats and Bats" (S5E01), Officer Bill "Dewey" Dudek (C. Thomas Howell) fires rubber bullets and tear gas from a Defense Technologies 1315 launcher during a riot situation.

X26 Taser

In Season 5's premiere "Hats and Bats" (S5E01), Officer Dave Mendoza (Chad Michael Murray) uses an X26 Taser to subdue an exotic dancer who removes his Glock 22 from its holster and fires it into the air several times. The Glock used in this scene appears to be a non-gun flashpaper replica. In "Off-Duty" (S5E05), Officer Hank Lucero (Anthony Ruivivar) uses the X26 Taser to stop a resisting suspect after the suspect attacks Officer Cooper.

X26 Taser

In Season 5's premiere "Hats and Bats" (S5E01), Officer Dave Mendoza (Chad Michael Murray) uses an X26 Taser to subdue an exotic dancer who commandeers his Glock 22 and fires it into the air.
