The Smith & Wesson Model 638 Airweight is a variant of the Smith & Wesson Model 637 Airweight, which is itself a stainless steel version of the Smith & Wesson Model 37 Airweight. The Model 638 features a shrouded hammer making it more suitable for concealed carry inside clothing. The hammer is not fully shrouded however, with the tip of the hammer spur just protruding outside of the frame meaning that the revolver can still be cocked and fired in single action, unlike the double action only Smith & Wesson Model 642.
