Law & Order - Season 5 (1994 – 1995)

Season 5 of Law & Order saw the addition of Sam Waterston to the cast as EADA Jack McCoy. Waterston would stay on as McCoy for the rest of the series and appear on the spin-offs SVU, Trial by Jury, and even sister series Homicide: Life on the Street. Dann Florek would return for a guest appearance as Captain Donald Cragen in episode 20, "Bad Faith." Carolyn McCormick was removed from the opening credits.

The fifth season would be the last for Chris Noth, whose salary became too expensive for the show. Noth was the last of the original cast from the initial pilot (filmed in 1988) to leave. Contrary to popular belief, fellow longtime cast member Steven Hill did not begin his time on the series until the premiere in 1990. In Season 5's finale "Pride" (S5E23), Logan was seen slugging a homophobic city councilman in front of news cameras and dozens of witnesses, and the episode ended with McCoy surmising Logan would be reassigned to sleepy Staten Island. An audience favorite, Noth would first return as Logan in the 1998 television film Exiled: A Law & Order Movie, and later as a regular cast member for a few seasons on Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Revolvers

Smith & Wesson Model 36

Detective Lennie Brisco (Jerry Orbach), Detective Mike Logan (Chris Noth) and Lieutenant Anita Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson) are armed with Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolvers. Despite the NYPD having officially switched to automatic pistols on January 1st, 1994, older officers like Briscoe, Logan and Van Buren were grandfathered in and allowed to continue carrying revolvers.
