Jim Backus (February 25, 1913-July 3, 1989) has over 250 credits in film and television in his 40-year career. He also worked in radio shows and as a voice actor in animated shows, including the title character in the Mr. Magoo cartoon franchise. He received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on February 8, 1960. In 1963 he was cast as Mr. Howell on the television comedy Gilligan's Island, then continued his acting career into the 1980s.
