The Covenant (aka Guy Ritchie's The Covenant) is a 2023 Afghanistan War film co-written and directed by Guy Ritchie and stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Master Sergeant John Kinley, a US Army Special Forces operator who accepts a new Afghan interpreter named Ahmed (Dar Salim) into his Green Beret unit. After an ambush, Kinley finds himself separated from US forces and must rely on Ahmed, who goes to Herculean lengths to save Kinley's life. When Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given safe passage to America as promised, he attempts to repay his debt by returning to the war zone to retrieve them before the Taliban hunts them down first. The cast includes Jonny Lee Miller, Antony Starr and Alexander Ludwig. The film was released to movie theaters in April of 2023.

Type 56

What looks like a Type 56 assault rifle is seen resting against the wheel of a vehicle on an US Army base. Some are also used by Afghan soldiers and Taliban fighters. Kinley and his team find a cache of them in a container when searching a quarry.

One of the most prominent rifles in the hands of Taliban fighters in the film is the PM md. 90. Ahmed uses a captured stockless PM md. 90 during the quarry shootout.
