A Dangerous Man
A Dangerous Man is a 2009 American Direct-To-Video action film directed by Keoni Waxman and starring Steven Seagal as Shane Daniels, an ex-Special Forces officer who spent six years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Within hours of his release, he unluckily bears witness to a brutal cop killing by thugs from a gang of Chinese human traffickers, led by Chen (Terry Chen).
Shane interferes and saves the life of Sergey (Jesse Hutch), who later turns out to be the son of a local Russian godfather. He also rescues a girl, Tia (Marlaina Mah), who tells him that her uncle (an accountant for a Chinese drug smuggling ring) is kept hostage by Chen’s men and Shane agrees to help her. He receives assistance from Russian godfather Vlad (Vitaly Kravchenko) who owes Shane a favour because he saved the life of his son Sergey twice.
Matters get more complicated (and bloody) when the Chinese drug smuggling ring send elite henchmen, led by The Colonel (Byron Mann), to get back the uncle. A special notice should go to the relatively rare China-produced QBZ-97 rifle. Apart from video games, this rifle does not seem to have been shown so prominently yet in any major film.
The following weapons were used in the film A Dangerous Man:
Handguns
Ruger GP100
A stainless 3” Ruger GP100 revolver is used by a mugger (Clay Virtue) who tries to rob Shane’s wife (Aidan Dee) as she’s waiting for Shane to show up for a rendezvous.
Colt M1911A1
As in many Steven Seagal movies, his weapon of choice is a Colt M1911A1 and he’s seen using it with great proficiency both right as well as left-handed. The exact version of this weapon cannot be identified, but it appears to be customized with custom grips with finger grooves, an extended beavertail and a combat hammer. It seems two different M1911A1s are used in the film, they look to be the same but can be distinguished from each other by the differently-shaped front sights.
Beretta 92FS
The Beretta 92FS is used by several characters in the film, most notably by Shane (Steven Seagal) when he takes it off a robber and gives him a ‘tough-guy’ gun speech that is reminiscent of Clint Eastwood’s ‘I know what you’re thinking’ lines in Dirty Harry. Rather comically, he incorrectly describes the disassembly process of the gun. The Beretta 92FS is also used at the beginning of the film, when a Chinese thug takes it off a State Trooper.
Glock 17
The Glock 17 is used by several characters throughout the film, mostly as a ‘bad guy’ gun. It’s also briefly carried by Sergey (Jesse Hutch) and Clark (Mike Chopud).
Glock 17 Pro
The Glock 17 Pro is used by Mao (Byron Lawson) during the raid on the Russian mafia mansion. In an apparent continuity error, it changes to a standard Glock 17 later on during the same scene.
Rifles
M4A1 Carbine
The Colt M4A1 Carbine is used by both Sgt. Ritchie (Jerry Wasserman) as well as by thugs from the gang of the human trafficker Chen (Terry Chen). The distinctive 'step down' in the barrel can be seen in most images when zoomed in.
QBZ-97
All men headed by The Colonel (Byron Mann) are seen using the QBZ-97 (export version of the QBZ-95), in all cases mounted with a flashlight on the barrel and an M68 Aimpoint red-dot scope on the carrying handle. It seems appropriate for them to use this model, rather than the more common Type 56 assault rifle, to indicate their special status as elite forces.
The QBZ-97 rifles seen in the hands of The Colonel (Byron Mann) and several of his men are equipped with QBZ-95-style trigger guards.
Type 56 Assault Rifle
The Type 56 assault rifle is the gun of choice for most Russian mobsters. In most shots, the typical Type 56 full-circle front sight can easily be identified.
Type 84S-2 Assault Rifle
During the cop killing, Mao (Byron Lawson) pulls out a Type 84S-2 assault rifle from the trunk of his car. Due to a continuity error, the stock is seen folded and unfolded a few times during that scene.
Zastava M70B1
For a brief moment, the Type 56 assault rifle that Sergey (Jesse Hutch) is carrying switches to a Zastava M70B1. This rifle can be distinguished from the Type 56 by the three vents in the wooden handguard (whereas the Type 56 has two like most other AK-type rifles) and by the folded grenade launching sight attached to the gas block.
Shotguns
Franchi SPAS-12
During the motel shootout, a Franchi SPAS-12 shotgun is used by a Chinese mobster sent by The Colonel.
Smith & Wesson 3000
The young and obedient store clerk (Eduard Witzke) in the liquor store that Shane visits upon his release keeps a Smith & Wesson 3000 shotgun (stock/barrel chopped) under the counter. It can be identified by the distinctive forend.
Sawed-Off Remington 870 Field Gun
The first Russian mobster confronting Sgt. Ritchie when he breaks into the Russians’ mansion carries a Remington 870 Field Gun with stock and barrel sawed off.
Mossberg 500 “Persuader”
Sgt. Ritchie’s “partner in crime” Clark (Mike Chopud) can be seen with a Mossberg 500 “Persuader” with extended magazine tube during the shootout at the Russians’ mansion.
Prop Guns
In a few shots, prop guns appear to have been used as stand-ins for Colt M4A1 Carbines and Type 56 assault rifles. They can be recognized as such by closed barrels and front sights that consist of one solid piece of material rendering them unusable.
Vlad’s Gunsafe
When he realizes his mansion’s under attack, Vlad (Vitaly Kravchenko) opens a gunsafe in his office. It is stocked with several Type 56 assault rifles as well as with Beretta 92FS pistols.
